Come and explore, through hands-on stations, how we can generate and use electricity in less impactful ways and help reduce light pollution to preserve our dark skies! We will play some energy trivia, engineer a model wind turbine, power lightbulbs using a bicycle, and check the energy usage of various common appliances. We will then think about actions we can take in our own communities to promote sustainable energy generation and use, with a special focus on those solutions that also improve our view of the stars!
The Vermont and New Hampshire Energy Education Program has been around for over 40 years. Our mission is to build a deep understanding of energy and climate through education, inspiring and empowering people to take action for increased sustainability in our communities, economy and environment. We offer hands-on, minds-on student workshops, professional development for teachers, and support for energy and climate action projects.
Angie Krysiak and Aubrey Nelson have been educators, PD leaders, and project advisors with VEEP/NHEEP for 6 years. Both are passionate about helping people figure out ways to protect our environment and promote engaging education.
In addition to NHAS’s monthly sky watch, get your telescope questions answered by a professional astronomer, whether you need help with your current scope, advice on purchasing one, or tips on how to observe celestial wonders. In the event of inclement weather, an NHAS member will still be present to assist with astronomy or telescope related inquiries. This program is free to attend, but regular admission applies for the featured Super Stellar Friday program.
